Gathering Light at the Street Gallery

Monday 7th of May 2012

Photograph by Clare ParkAn extraordinary exhibition of 25 photographs by Lensmodern member Clare Park, entitled 'Gathering Light', opens this month to shine a light on the world of clinical research.
The provocative exhibition in the Street Gallery of University College Hospital takes a rare view of the discipline through the eyes of patients and researchers. The photographs capture the unique relationship between patient and doctor and the hope and human spirit wrapped up in research projects.
The example shown here is of patient John Gebbels and is captioned: ‘The pleasure of weightless submersion once felt like an impossible dream. I have long craved the quiet, calm escapism of the swimming pool and now it appears to be an imminent possibility.’
The exhibition, which runs from 4 May to 27 June, is the result of a ground-breaking project in which Clare works with five researchers and their patients to explore their response to the exciting but challenging journey in clinical research. The focus is on ‘translational research’, where researchers work to transform scientific discoveries into new treatments that have a direct effect on patient care. The Street Gallery can be found at the University College Hospital, 235 Euston Road NW1 2BU.
