Bob Harris was educated at Northgate Grammar School Ipswich before studying for a BA at Kingston College of Art. In 1968 he began a career as an art director, working for several London advertising agencies, including Collett Dickenson Pearce, Sharps Advertising, Geers Gross, Marsteller, and Davidson Pearce (now BMPDDB).

He made a major career move in 1985 when he began working as a freelance photographer for a wide range of clients, including Evro Publishing, Tesco, Sainsbury's, British Aerospace, King & Barnes Brewery, Northern Rock Building Society, Waitrose, Halifax Building Society, and Beaver Homes.

Himself a pilot, Bob’s passion for aviation resulted in a solo exhibition of his work, "Pilots and their favourite aircraft", which was shown at Biggin Hill and Goodwood Aerodromes.

Bob was Chairman of the Association of Photographers from 1991 to 1993 and served on the AOP’s Awards Committee from 1992 to 1994.
